Women's espadrilles – smart-casual summer shoes

Espadrilles are the ultimate summer shoes. These Mediterranean slip-ons can be worn on any occasion, casually at the poolside, with shorts, with airy dresses or with an elegant dress in the evening. Women's espadrilles are characterised by raffia soles. Espadrilles were originally worn by farmers and fishermen in Provence, on Majorca and in Catalonia. They were comfortable yet good quality slip-on shoes with soles woven from robust esparto grass. The uppers were made of cotton or linen. Originally, good quality espadrilles were only available in the colours black or white, as well as natural shades. Black was for everyday wear, white espadrilles were worn on Sundays and feast days.
