Painting Easter eggs with line art
The Easter holidays are just around the corner, so it’s time to get in the mood for spring and decorate your house with branches, flowers and Easter eggs. Here’s a great idea for anyone looking for unique and modern decorations: hand-painted Easter eggs with line drawings. We’ve completely fallen in love with “line art” illustrations here at Högl, as these graphic drawings represent minimalism, clean lines and contemporary style – just like our current S/S 2021 collection!
We’ve used naturally green eggs as well as white ones for our DIY decorations. Yes, that’s right! There really are breeds of chicken which lay eggs that are naturally green in colour. In many rural areas there are small local chicken farms where you can buy this type of egg. The beautiful pastel shade of pistachio green fits our spring mood perfectly and it’s the ideal background for our line art illustrations.
To blow the eggs, just use a needle to puncture a small hole on the top and bottom and then hold the egg over a bowl and blow firmly through the hole in the top until the yolk and white have come out. You can then use these to make a delicious cake, for example. Rinse out the egg shells well and leave them to dry.
For the painting, you will need:
- acrylic paint (we mixed plenty of white with red, blue, brown and yellow to get the pastel colours we wanted, but you could also just buy pastel paints)
- a paintbrush
- a permanent marker or fineliner
- a pencil
Here's how to do it:
- Mix the acrylic paints to get the shades you want. Use plenty of white to get pastel tones, and only add a dab of colour.
- Use the brush to apply the paint onto the egg shell.
- Allow the paint to dry completely.
- Sketch the line art design in pencil and then go over it with the permanent marker.
- If you want to hang the eggs up, cut the satin ribbon to the desired length and then attach it to the top of the eggs with the hot glue gun.
