Högl bootees in patent leather
Are you ready for the new shoe season? Then buckle up! Shortstoriesandskirts shows how to turn fashion into art.
Art. It’s a complex ever-changing creature with a constant ability to shock, make us think, and spark debate. But that’s part of its beauty. It’s wide open to interpretation, just like fashion, another form of expression, and the two are so often intertwined.
You see, fashion, much like art, creates new perspectives through fresh ideas whilst trying out trends. Catwalk styles might make us cautious at first, and at times flat out refuse to even acknowledge them. But then a curiosity is so often ignited within, and a need to investigate becomes apparent, ultimately leading to acceptance and experimentation.
This happened to me recently after noticing an increase in patent and vinyl fabrics, known as the ‘wet-look’ trend. It certainly grabbed my attention, but it left me feeling apprehensive and unsure about introducing a new fabric into my wardrobe.
So, I decided to start small, choosing a pair of Högl PRIDE patent leather boots
- bang on trend, and yet still super easy to style, with a fun and fierce element. Essentially, dipping my toe in the trend, or, in this case, the boot!
The boots have a handy heel for added height but are still comfortable enough to wear all day. The buckle detailing is also a fab addition, creating a distinctive look without too much embellishment or fussiness. Högl got this spot on in the creation process and made them perfect to pack for an upcoming trip.

So, armed with my new shoes, simple in design, but still a style statement, I headed to Istanbul on a business trip, without any real idea of what to wear them with - until I visited my friend’s showroom, and stumbled across this vinyl trench coat she had so beautifully tailored. And just like the boots, the coat is elegant in design, clean cut and chic. With these pieces, it’s all about the fabric. I’d suggest leaving loud designs at home and letting the materials do the talking instead. I love the crisp contrast between these super chic tailored trousers, the effortlessness of a sleeveless top and the eye-catching wet-look of the boots and form-fitting trench coat. It makes for quite a juxtaposition and sartorial transition! The white helps to tone down the outfit and still keep it workwear appropriate, without losing personality. It also made me realise that the styling potential of these boots is endless. They’re as versatile as they are shiny!
They attract all the attention without needing any more embellishment. These bootees are a simple addition to feminine outfits, while still making a statement.
So, long story short, buckle up! Be brave and embrace new trends! Interpret them however you want, and if you’re still apprehensive, start with your accessories, because that’s the easiest way to play and still keep your wardrobe wearable!
