Greetings from Innsbruck!

Hiking boots or high heels?

If you like to reconnect with nature and soak up some culture when you go away, Innsbruck is the perfect destination for your next city break – mountain hikes included!

Cowbells or Baroque music? Hiking boots or high heels? When packing for a holiday in Innsbruck, be sure to be prepared, because there is a huge amount to explore and discover – in the city and in the mountains. While away the hours at a sidewalk cafe, enjoying the view of the grand medieval buildings in Innsbruck’s old town, before moving on to a mountain restaurant where you can admire the vista 2,000 metres above sea level.

Design at the highest level

Fancy a mountain walk followed by a shopping spree, all in one day? Thanks to Innsbruck’s newly-built Nordkette cableway system, with its valley station located in the heart of the city, getting from A to B has never been easier. With their cable-stayed bridges over the Inn, the four stations, designed by the late famous architect Zaha Hadid, are architectural masterpieces that play with natural shapes and flowing lines. You can reach the mountain heights by cable car in just 20 minutes. The Seegrube and the Hafelekar are starting points for beautiful hikes and adventurous climbs.

A feast for the ears – and for the taste buds!

After a morning in the mountains, why not check out Innsbruck’s modern Maria-Theresien-Straße for a spot of window shopping, followed by an aperitif in one of the street’s cosy bars? And when dinnertime arrives, gourmet lovers can sample some tender Tyrolean mountain lamb to scale even loftier heights, or choose from a large selection of internationally-inspired dishes, cooked by the city’s many award-winning chefs.

The Innsbruck Festival of Early Music celebrates the great composers of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Promenade concerts fill the courtyard of the Imperial Palace in the centre of Innsbruck with beautiful waltzes, in a nostalgic nod to days gone by, while the New Orleans Festival at the Landhausplatz is the place to go for jazz, swing and merriment with a generous helping of soul.

More information about the city’s diverse programme of sporting and cultural events is available from Innsbruck Tourism, tel.: +43 51 25 98 50, www.innsbruck.info, office@innsbruck.info
