Brimming with tradition and charm, the winter destination of Kitzbühel in the heart of the Alps is renowned far beyond the borders of Austria.

120 years of skiing success

It was back in 1893 that Franz Reisch laid the first tracks in the snow at the Kitzbüheler Horn, sparking the skiing revolution. Today, Kitzbühel is synonymous with ski fun at its very best with its deep snow runs, moguls, steep north slopes and delightful sunny pistes. With 65 runs across a total area of 215 km, there’s something for every skill level. Other features include 13 marked ski routes, totalling 36 km, and a whole host of off-piste opportunities straight out of a picture book.

Lay the first tracks in the snow

Having opened on 14 October, Kitzbühel is the first non-glacier ski resort to have kickstarted the new winter season, while the Walde lift on the Hahnenkamm mountain opens on 26 October. Get your carving up to scratch in the world’s best ski resort and experience the legendary Streif for yourself!

One word. One term. One legend. The Streif!

Explore the world’s most spectacular runs in summer, then ride them in winter. But a word to the wise: if you want to follow the trails of the world's best skiers and snowboarders, you should be highly advanced yourself. Key locations on the Streif, such as the Mausefalle, Steilhang and Hausbergkante are all signposted as "extreme ski routes".

Kitzbühel can be different.

Those looking for non-skiing activities will certainly not be disappointed: tobogganing, winter and snowshoe hiking, romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides and strolls through the picturesque city centre are all exciting possibilities.

Want to experience the magic of winter in and around the renowned town of the chamois? The Kitzbühel Tourism Office offers guided winter and snowshoe tours free of charge to some of the most beautiful places in the region. From torch-lit walks to full-moon and sunset strolls through the snowy winter landscapes, what better way to soak up the atmosphere?
