Where to wine and dine in Austria
Högl foodie tip: Introducing some of Austria’s finest eateries
Here at Högl, we love to inspire you with beautiful things. This time, we’re introducing you to award-winning master chefs and giving you an insight into Austria’s gourmet scene.
Gourmet dining in a rustic setting: Steira Wirt near Graz
Richard Rauch and his sister Sonja are the dream team behind this Austrian culinary hotspot. Nestled in the idyllic village of Trautmannsdorf, an hour south of Graz, the Steira Wirt is a traditional tavern that’s over 120 years old. Against this rustic and cosy backdrop, the master chef wows guests with creative gourmet cuisine. We think it’s a winning combination – and the restaurant’s three-“toque” rating speaks for itself.
Award-winning veggie cuisine: Tian in Vienna
Michelin-starred Tian is known as THE best vegetarian restaurant in Austria and classed as one of the best four in Europe. Located right in the heart of Vienna, it takes diners on a culinary journey over six, eight or ten courses. According to Paul Ivic, Executive Chef and Manager at Tian, “food doesn’t need fancy language; food needs soul” – we couldn’t agree more!
Bedazzling creations: Steirereck in Vienna’s Stadtpark
Char in beeswax, beetroot with scented roses, artichoke with veal kidney: if you fancy innovative cuisine made with the best produce that Austria has to offer, then the Steirereck restaurant in Vienna’s Stadtpark is the perfect place for you. Delicious creations await that will delight your palate. Head Chef Heinz Reitbauer was awarded the title of Chef of the Decade in 2017, and the restaurant also earned a four-“toque” rating this year.
Reservations are mandatory here, so prepare well ahead. Bon appétit!
